I never had a problem with determining the number of calories in a chocolate-covered vanilla Dairy Queen cone (a scant 150!).  But I realized lately that it is the (relatively) healthy foods thatcan be a challenge – I come from a “clean your plate” family dining table and a mindset that all salads have about zero calories.

That’s why I was so excited when I got the announcement for LivSpoonTM that solves this problem.  And ever since I got the gleaming spoons I have been measuring everything I eat.   What I noticed was that my estimate of most foods amounts are larger than I would guess.  This is especially surprising are veggies.

The Livliga company is dedicated to providing solutions for portion control eating, and this one is  a beauty– a set of four, polished, stainless steel spoons in four specific sizes that can be used to measure and serve anything from your own casual family dinner to elaborate buffets.

With sizes ranging from 1/8 cup to 1 cup, the LivSpoonTM properly measures everything from salad dressings to string beans in proper proportions, in addition to culinary creations like chowders and cobblers. The set just became available ($49.95) at www.LivligaHome.com.

A patented design, their double bended handle allows LivSpoonsTM to rest on the side of a bowl or pot, right side up or upside down, providing more versatility in the kitchen saw the spoons added, “they look wonderfully clean and elegant to use because they’re not porous plastic and they rest against the bowl so they are not dripping food juices all over the countertop.” and at the dining table.  A fastidious catering company owner who

LivSpoon Hi ResSheila Kemper Dietrich, Livliga Founder and CEO,  conceived the idea out of a personal desire to find an answer to our supersized world surrounding eating and to find a better solution of “right-sizing” beyond the usual ugly “diet plate.”

After years of waging the war against obesity and longing to embrace a healthier lifestyle, Sheila began researching and experimenting with the concept of “right-sizing” the food environment,  including subtle reminders for a balanced meal and portion control measurements.

After learning that the dinner plate has grown in size by 51% since the 1900s, she naturally started with dishware. Sheila created the first prototypes by hand at a local “paint your own” pottery store and started using them as her family’s primary tableware set. Her family embarked on this journey together, enjoying both the appealing design of the dishes, and feeling satisfied after eating appropriate sized servings at each meal. Sheila lost over 50 pounds while her husband and daughter each lost more than 20 in almost no time at all, without even noticing that their portions had changed. The meals looked plentiful, the plates looked beautiful.

LivligaTM dinnerware is specifically designed to make recommended serving sizes look plentiful by integrating the psychology of eating in every dish, with the help of “VisualQs” – a concept which states that our bodies and minds look for visual cues to help us determine the amount of food we consume in one sitting. When combined with LivligaTM dinnerware, each right- sized LivSpoonTM portion will look and feel plentiful. Their purposefully rounded form both maps to the icons on LivligaTM plates, and leaves servings attractively shaped.

“The LivSpoons were actually my first concept to help people with measuring what they eat,” said Founder and CEO, Sheila Kemper Dietrich. “I imagined a combination of a serving spoon with a measuring cup in various standard sizes that would be, not only beautiful, but also useful for measuring specific portions. As the LivligaTM brand continues to evolve, we are happy to provide health-conscious individuals with new and innovative tools for establishing and maintaining healthy eating habits. Our latest spoon fits perfectly in that category.”

Maintenance of this collection is as easy as using it. Each stainless steel spoon is dishwasher safe, while all four LivSpoons nest together for easy storage. Available beginning in September 2015, the set can be purchased for $49.95 at www.LivligaHome.com.
