Melting Pot Tours Presents Rare “Jet Tila’s THAI TOWN TOUR”
Melting Pot presents an insider’s look at the Thai Town neighborhood of Los Angeles with local celebrity chef, Jet Tila. It is a rare appearance by the chef with his busy schedule and the tour has been met with enthusiasm since its inception in December 2012. Tour guests have the exclusive attention of celebrity Chef Jet Tila and enjoy dining with him. Chef Tila has hand-picked favorite Thai dishes at a variety of neighborhood cafes and restaurants
Generous and incredibly delicious tastings include (but are not limited to) Papaya Salad, Jade Noodles, “Pork Jerky”, and delicate finger desserts. Guests also enjoy a personal tutorial at a grocery store in town, with insider tips for shopping quintessential Thai ingredients. An extra-special gift from Jet are recipes from the tasting stops.
Chef Jet is known as one of the kindest, most fun, and humblest celebrities in the city. When culinary personality and best-selling author Anthony Bourdain brought his “No Reservations” crew to Los Angeles he turned to Chef Jet Tila, Thai Town’s honorary Mayor, to show him around. That resulted in a memorable Thai Town segment for Travel Channel’s hugely popular “No Reservations” series. Chef Jet was appointed as the official Thai Culinary Ambassador to the United States by the Royal Thai Government in 2013.
Savvy food tourists can now personally experience that same, ultimate, insiders’ tour, previously available only to prominent journalists and distinguished visiting chefs with celebrity chef and national culinary personality Jet Tila as their personal guide.
Second generation Thai business owner Jet Tila grew up in the area, where his family owned and operated the landmark Bangkok Market. Thai people often frequent restaurants for one particular signature dish, and Jet will showcase the best of these for his guests including papaya salad, jade noodles, and a rich coconut banana fritter. Chef Jet recently gave a preview Thai Tour to Eye on LA.
Space for each tour is limited to 15 persons so participants are encouraged to sign up early. Meeting locations and other specific tour details will be sent to guests upon confirmed reservations.
No future tour dates will be posted until after the July 24 tour.
Tours begins promptly at 10:30am, and lasts 2-2.25 hours. $175 per person.
Native Los Angeleno Lisa Scala created Melting Pot Tours with a tour to the Original Farmers Market and a walking tour along the adjacent third street for a mile, stopping in shops and eateries. Today her company is the official tour of the Farmers Market. Her sister, Diane runs many of the tours.
