When I drove out of the 14t Los Angeles magazine’s The Food Event, the 14th Annual Epicurean Extravaganza in  2018 on a glorious, cloudless day, top down on the convertible and swinging all the way around from Kanan Dune to Mulholland Drive to the beach, I remember thinking, “it doesn’t get better than this.”  The Woolsey fires took place two weeks later, destroying much of Saddlerock Ranch.   So this is another reason to attend the event: to honor the remaining land.  The Food Event will be held at Saddlerock Ranch (but in a different part of the Ranch).  The spacious grounds inside this magnificent private venue make for delightful walking in the fresh air between samplings from the most innovative and the very best LA Restaurants, Wine, Beer and Spirits.

One last look back at Los Angeles Magazine’s 14th Epicurean Extravaganza  in 2018. No one wanted to leave that day.

Highlights of 2018 included:

Casa Vega: a “best bite” as Christy Vega serves up Casa Vega’s family recipe for albòndigas and the best hug right inside the entrance.  For more information, please visit www.casavega.com or find Casa Vega on Facebook and Instagram.

Terranea Chef de Cuisne Andrew Vaughan outdid everyone with the popular dish of Short Ribs, with Red Wine Braised Beef Short Rib and beef cheeks served with  whole grain honey mustard, jalapeno mashed potato, garlic broccolini and horseradish cream, plus herbs from the resort’s own .  mar’sel restaurant herb garden.

Desserts served on the top of the hill were wild and wacky.   The SMITTEN ICE CREAM ladies brought their own ice cream maker to whip up raw cookie dough ice cream.  For locations please see  //www.smittenicecream.com/location/southern-ca/
